Miriam Michelle Paul
The Changemaker
Michelle has an amazing level of resilience and loves to learn.
Successful in her own right – Michelle has made a home and life for herself and her son, without any direct family support. And she has done this with the brightest of smiles! Over the past couple of years, Michelle encountered further challenges both personally and professionally.
Personally she initiated divorce proceedings from her expat spouse and organized her son’s schooling in Singapore, whilst coming to the end of her subsidized housing arrangement and finding suitable, affordable accommodation.
Professionally, she works in F&B, an industry that was drastically curtailed by the pandemic. Michelle started as a part-time waitress in a DOT program mid-2019, but rapidly moved through the ranks, taking full-time and then managerial and administrative roles and became a Purchasing & Compliance Manager. Due to the economic downturn, her employer succumbed to having to sell the business but thankfully, a new business owner was found and they kept Michelle employed. However, Michelle had to change jobs again, taking on the role of an Accounts Executive role and quickly picked up the necessary skills.
Despite the setbacks, Michelle always bounces back. She has learnt self-care strategies and has created her own ‘family’ of mentors and friends. She now has the confidence and support to make difficult decisions and continue her journey of change and independence.
