Befrienders
About
Daughter Of Tomorrow’s goal is to empower low income women in Singapore by connecting them to relevant skills training, confidence building courses, support networks and suitable job opportunities. An important part of this journey is to provide one on one support to each beneficiary so that we can understand her unique situation, needs and connect her to relevant resources and opportunities. We currently have an amazing team of trained volunteer Befrienders who help us support our DOT ladies.
Some basic DOT Befriender requirements are:
- Female
- 30 years and above
- Empathetic and caring individuals
- Available for support (via phone call/msg) for next 1 year
Time Commitment:
- Attend Befriender Training
- Face to face meeting with your assigned beneficiary
- Stay in touch via phone calls and messages
Our Befriender Training is conducted in two parts
Intro to DOT & Role of a Befriender
Run quarterly
A session to learn more about DOT as an organization, how we work, what a volunteer Befriender actually does and how we stay connected.
Poverty Simulation Workshop
Multiple runs throughout the year
A poverty simulation called Living on the Edge (LOTE) where for 3 hours you walk in our beneficiaries shoes to gain a deeper understanding and greater empathy of the challenges they face on a daily basis.
