Hannah Kasture

The Changemaker

Hannah’s courage, resilience and strong values rooted in love for her family has seen her through challenging circumstances.

After having her first child at 19, Hannah went through a difficult period of her life. She juggled caregiving without support and did not have a permanent home to live in as her parents sold their home after divorcing.

She faced discrimination as a jobseeker when employers learned that she was the sole caregiver for her children. Hannah persevered. Through faith, resourcefulness and self-determination, she found work wherever she could and moved into her own two-room HDB rental flat with her four children.

DOT met Hannah when she attended DOT’s Confidence Curriculum this year. At this stage of her journey, Hannah presented herself as a self-assured individual. She was unafraid to share her story and her passion encouraged her peers to do the same. She also revealed her kind and generous nature and willingly extended help to others.

Hannah aspires to pursue a career in social work, volunteers as a befriender to single mothers at HCSA SPIN programme and has started a fellowship with Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Resolute in challenging the stereotypes about single mothers, Hannah desires to live her life with dignity and give her best to her children. She hopes that by sharing her story and journeying with other single mothers, they too will be empowered to overcome their struggles.
