What stability means for lowered income women in Singapore
What stability means for lowered income women in Singapore
Insight #2
Stability is shaped by structural and systemic factors. Despite differences, both groups shared common struggles and advantages from the outset.
Shared strengths
Both groups benefited from strong indicators in personal hygiene, internet access, electricity, English ability, and digital literacy. This is reflective of strong infrastructure and basic education that have been provided in Singapore.
Shared struggles
Family savings, caregiving support, women’s reproductive health, and insurance were in the red for both groups. This suggests structural limitations around access to stable sources of income and medical resources.
When the data is divided based on employment status (employed vs unemployed), it also becomes more apparent that improvements for unemployed lower income women happen at a slower rate.
